Biofuel production by-products contribute to GHG emission reduction

In May, an extended summary of the project Environmental and socio-economic benefits from Swedish biofuel production was published. The project, carried out within the Swedish Energy Agency and f3 collaborative research program Renewable transportation fuels and systems (Förnybara drivmedel och system), investigates the potential of non-fuel related benefits from biofuel production to contribute to GHG emission reductions when replacing fossil fuels. There are many valuable by-products and/or co-produced utilities with high fossil replacement potential.

Now, the first of two scientific articles from the project has been published, titled Assessing the aggregated environmental benefits from by-product and utility synergies in the Swedish biofuel industry.

Another article and a supporting analysis report are under way and will also be distributed as soon as possible.
