Ecosystem services are the benefits people obtain from ecosystems. There is evidence that biofuels offer ecosystem services but also compromise other services. However, there is limited knowledge about how the production of biofuels affect ecosystem services and related synergies and trade-offs. The production of biofuels may influence important ecosystem services, such as for example bioenergy for different purposes, soil quality, carbon sequestration and recreation.

An ongoing Climate KIC supported project called RENJET investigates future renewable jet fuel supply chains. Sweden was selected as a case region for analysis of different supply chain configurations for the production of forest-based jet fuel, and the analysis was performed using a geographically explicit optimization approach similar to the BeWhere Sweden model, which has been developed within ...

This is what the latest finished f3 project wants to investigate. P2G is an acronym for Power-to-gas, meaning that power is used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysis. The hydrogen can either be used directly as the fuel or raw material it is, or be reacted further with carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide into a biofuel/biochemical, e.g. methane or methanol. When the end-product is a liquid, the technology is termed Power-to Liquid (P2L). Today, there is one commercial...
