Marine ecosystem services and thermochemical conversion of digestate - focus for two new program projects

The latest call in the collaborative research program "Renewable transportation fuels and systems" (Förnybara drivmedel och system), run and financed jointly by f3 and the Swedish Energy Agency, has resulted in the start of two new projects that both will investigate raw material/feedstock for biofuel production from different perspectives.

The first project, lead by Karin Hansen at IVL and carried out together with SP, will study how ecosystem services are affected by an increased biofuel production from marine feedstocks like algae and sea squirts. A more detailed description of the project is available here.

Anna-Karin Jannasch, SP (RISE), is the project leader of the second project which is carried out in cooperation with Lund University. The purpose of this project is to investigate if residuals from biochemical conversion can be used as raw material, in a techno-economical way, for gasification for the production of biofuels, and if there are gaps in knowledge on this issue.
