The use of biofuels in Sweden has increased dramatically during the last decade and the country is now one of the leading member states in the European Union (EU). Sweden has ambitious national targets for the transport sector and the ambition to continue being a leading country for biofuel use. This requires policies that justify long term investment in biofuel production facilities and refueling infrastructure.
A recently finished f3-project performed by Kersti Karltorp and Jorrit Gosens at SP set out to overview the complex EU legislation regarding biofuel development, and also to investigate which the implications are for Swedish stimulus measures from e.g. the Iluc directive and the RED Directive. The finished report shows possibilities and limitations for continued and future support for biofuels in Sweden seen in today’s light.
